All ice sessions will take place in Lloydminster with B.McKEE Goaltending. Your lead instructor is Bella McKee. Originally from Irma, Alberta, Bella McKee has coached and been a goaltender throughout many levels of hockey. She has travelled as the Goaltending coach for Team Alberta at the 2023 Canada Winter Games and 2024 U18 Nationals. As a goalie, Bella played 6 years with the Lloydminster Elite Division, plus multiple Hockey Alberta competitions. She also played NCAA Division 1 hockey in Schenectady, New York with the Union College Dutchwomen, receiving ECAC Goalie of the Week honours. In her freshman year, she finished with the most saves in the nation! Some of Bella's achievements include the AFHL Top Goaltender Award (x2), AFHL Most Valuable Player, ECAC Hockey Goaltender of the Week and, most notably winning GOLD at the 2019 Canada Winter Games with Team Alberta.
Ice sessions will be a combination of skills sessions and fast paced game situation skates. Fortunately, the length of the program allows us to take the time to work on skills before integrating speed and additional concepts. We believe every goalie is unique and how they are taught should reflect their personal needs. We will not change your style, we will help you mold it into excellence! We will not change you but rather help you to reach your full and complete potential. This belief is true both on and off the ice.
Vision Training sessions will take place at Summit Sport Performance & Vision Training, in Lloydminster. Candice Stockman will be your lead vision coach. Candice is a physical education and science teacher of 25 years and competed as an All-Canadian on the University of Alberta Track and Field team. Sports have always been a big part of her life and she now brings her competitive edge and knowledge to athletes at Summit.
At Summit, goalies will be trained like professionals, with state of the art equipment and a training program customized to their specific needs. Every athlete will begin with an assessment of 10 cognitive skills. This assessment is done on the Senaptec Sensory Station which is technology you will only find 4 of in Alberta, (one being owned by the Calgary Flames!) The assessment compares you to the same demographics as yourself (sport, position, level, age, sex, weight) and this gives us an accurate result of where your skills are at and Candice will build a training plan to improve your deficits. At Summit, the sensory station along with sport specific movement and other technology such as Senaptec strobe goggles, hecostix, and blazepods are used as training equipment. Goalies will have 4 assessments done throughout the program in order to help redirect training as well as show improves being made. Summit Sport Performance & Vision Training will help you get the edge over your competition.
Mental Skills sessions will take place at Integrated Therapies by Hunt Psychological Services. Reid Coleman will be your Mental Skills Coach. Reid has completed a B.Sc. (Honours Degree), Sport and Exercise Psychology and a M.Sc. in Psychology with a major in Sport. In addition to his degrees, he has specialized training in mental skills coaching and post graduate courses in counselling psychology. Reid’s interest in the area of Sport Psychology was developed through his own experience as an athlete where he had the opportunity to play a number of sports at an elite level, including USport. He is passionate about helping athletes develop new techniques and strategies that help them reach their full potential while managing the pressures of competing at an elite level.
All classroom sessions will take place either at The Pursuit School of Sport or at Summit. Your classroom sessions will be led by Bella McKee. These sessions will be a mix of athlete focused tasks, lectures and video review. We will discuss different lecture topics such as post play, stance, tracking and the elements of competition. Athletes will also learn how to write and format emails to university/junior coaches, create a video package, and complete projects around goaltending and development. Classroom content will be adjusted based on age group.
